Jovian Orchestra is the debut album from American producer Prismaspect. Thematically spurred from the ammonia clouds of the solar system’s most prominent planet, Jovian Orchestra is an experiment into psytrance unshackled by convention. Instead of honing in on one style or sound, Prismaspect instead takes the listener on a sonic expedition—mashing together various psychedelic timbres into one cohesive vision. Energetic basslines and electric synth noises fill up the speakers to the point of breaking one moment, giving way to lush soaring melodies the next. There are hints of both dark and light here; nighttime fullon speeds, intricate darkpsy sounds, and morning-psy melodic content. Nine of Jupiter’s well known satellites are represented—each with its own unique story to tell. Travel through the Jovian system begins with Himalia, presenting a strong opening with soaring melodies, while the moons that follow dive deep into various energetic and hypnotic atmospheres. The latter half of the album brings in orchestral instruments, acutely representing the album’s namesake with striking cinematic flair. The journey ends with a calmer crystalline offering on Lysithea, showcasing the artist’s (aptly named) prismatic abilities in composition. Jovian Orchestra is not just a collection of tracks. For the listener, it’s an experience to get lost in; a triumphant conceptualization of what it’s like to be whisked into space by the great god Jupiter himself. A voyage that takes the listener into orbit around the iconic gas giant and leaves them floating in the stars.
